It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Wayne had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They took down the Nitro Wildcats 56-39. The win was nothing new for the Pioneers as they're now sitting on 14 straight.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Wayne to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jaycelyn Sammons, who shot 50% from the field to rack up 22 points and six steals. Sammons is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 19 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Brooke Adkins, who went 7-for-12 on her way to 16 points.
When it comes to explaining why Nitro lost, don't look at Bri Gibson. Despite the final result, she shot 60% from the field en route to 16 points. The dominant performance gave Gibson a new career-high in points. Natalie Smith was another key player, putting up four points and 13 boards.
Wayne's victory bumped their record up to 22-4. As for Nitro, they moved to 21-5 with that loss, which also ended their five-game winning streak.
As of now, neither Wayne nor Nitro have any future games scheduled.
