Steven Drye and David Lucero provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Southwest. The longest such play in Manzanita this season, the connection resulted in 60 yards.
Mountain Empire was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from third to first in the league. Earlier in the week, the Red Hawks defeated Calvary Christian Academy 56-27.
Holtville's dynamic duo of Drye and Lucero proved tough for the Eagles to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Drye threw for 126 yards and two touchdowns and Lucero had 97 yards receiving. Clayton Bowler helped Holtville's passing attack out by catching two balls for 36 yards.
Willie Wilson was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 248 yards on nine carries as Mountain Empire bested Southwest. Teammate Darice Aguayo added to the ground attack by rushing for 92 yards.
Calipatria's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Hornets feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Evan Franklin has thrown for 401 yards and four touchdowns this season, while Jacob Whannel has 19 catches for 217 yards. Michael Medina leads the league in rushing with 326 yards.
Bill Dobson's team moved up to 733 from 853 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. A 56-27 win over the Royal Knights helped the Red Hawks improve their standing.
