2A-1 Region II District 6 recap October 8, 2013
Sam Wells and Josh Brewer provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Van Alstyne. The connection was good for 81 yards, the longest such play in 2A-1 Region II District 6 this season.
Pottsboro added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Farmersville, 24-17. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
Ryan Cottingame threw for 352 yards and 6 touchdowns. He was 27-35 with 0 interceptions.
Cottingame put up the best numbers in passing as Sunnyvale lost to Caddo Mills. Cottingame's favorite target this week was Josh Quinn, who caught 12 passes for 138 yards.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Sunnyvale's Cottingame and Quinn have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-4 quarterback Cottingame has thrown for 1,867 yards this season, while Quinn has 40 catches for 718 yards. Erik Richards from the Foxes leads the league in rushing with 861 yards.
Going into this week's game against Commerce, John Settle's team's Cottingame needs 133 passing yards to surpass 2,000 on the season.
A big matchup in 2A-1 Region II District 6 this week will be when Pottsboro takes on Caddo Mills. Matt Poe's team is currently in first, while Steve Sumrow's team is in sixth.
The Foxes moved up to 780 from 842 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Caddo Mills climbed the ranks as a result of beating Sunnyvale 41-40.
