Shawano Community is 1-9 against Seymour since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Hawks will take on the Thunder at 4:30 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Shawano Community barely beat New London the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Hawks put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 10-4 win on Thursday. The Hawks' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Shawano Community let Gracee Johnson and Amiyah O'Kimosh run wild. Johnson went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while O'Kimosh went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Johnson also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Jacey Cowden was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Shawano Community kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Seymour had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7 runs) and they went ahead and made it seven on Thursday. They walked away with a 9-5 victory over the Wolves. That's two games straight that the Thunder have won by exactly four runs.
Kendra Rettler spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Adde Smith was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lyla Schueler, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Shawano Community's record is now 6-4. As for Seymour, their record now sits at 9-2.
