Two dominant signal callers in Caden Jones and Brady Edmunds are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Crean Lutheran Saints will host the Huntington Beach Oilers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Crean Lutheran comes in on eight and Huntington Beach on six.
Crean Lutheran lost a heartbreaker the last time they played La Habra, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Friday's matchup. The Saints took their contest on Friday with ease, bagging a 56-21 win over the Highlanders. The Saints might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by 24 points or more this season.
Crean Lutheran's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Caleb Bey, who rushed for 116 yards and a pair of scores on only 12 carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryce Coleman, who picked up 129 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Another reason for the win was Crean Lutheran's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. Allitoa Nansen was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up 2.5 himself. Ty Johnson got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Huntington Beach beat Foothill 21-14 on Friday. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Oilers' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 80th, while the Knights are ranked 245th).
Crean Lutheran better keep an eye on Troy Foster. He was instrumental in Huntington Beach's win, picking up 117 receiving yards and a pair of TDs. Foster's receiving production has been exceptional recently as that marked his fourth straight game with at least 117 receiving yards.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Huntington Beach proved: they limited Foothill to a paltry 0.6 yards per carry. The team can thank Owen Bone for the heroic effort on defense: he. Huntington Beach's ground attack was stronger, having averaged 3.1.
Huntington Beach didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Jimmel Champion and Maxx Hopkins. Gavin Seguin was another major factor on D, picking up 2.5 sacks and making five total tackles (3.0 for loss).
Crean Lutheran's victory bumped their record up to 8-0. As for Huntington Beach, their win bumped their record up to 7-1.
We should be in store for an exciting game as the two teams have no problem gaining yardage. Crean Lutheran has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 444 total yards per game. However, it's not like Huntington Beach struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 374.8 total yards. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them.
Crean Lutheran took their victory against Huntington Beach when the teams last played back in October of 2024 by a conclusive 38-14 score. Will the Saints repeat their success, or do the Oilers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
