Kaleb Richards was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed five innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
In other batting news, Cash Gaines was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four runs and two stolen bases. He is becoming a predictor of Fort Wayne Wayne's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-10 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Ethaun Thomas, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
Fort Wayne Wayne always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .622. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger entered their tilt with Logansport on Saturday with 12 consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with 13. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Berries a 10-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Saints, who have now won 11 games by six runs or more so far this season.
The result came thanks to Finn Moilanen's shutout, as he gave up just three hits and racked up six Ks. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Eddie Miller was excellent, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Parker Tone, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.
Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-3. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.9 runs on average over those games. As for Fort Wayne Wayne, their victory bumped their record up to 5-10.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Fort Wayne Wayne has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 5.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Fort Wayne Wayne might still be hurting after the 8-2 defeat they got from Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger in their previous matchup back in May of 2024.
