Baseball Recap: Friday's Loss Ends Purchase Line's Winning Streak

Purchase Line dropped their record down to 7-11 on Friday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They lost 13-7 to the United Lions. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Red Dragons of the 11-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2024.

Christian Moyer was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Purchase Line's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 5-1 (and 2-10 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Wyatt Sheredy, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

As for United, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-10. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games.

On United's side, Ryan Felix was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts Felix has posted since back in May of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

In other pitching news, Braden Butler looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits.

Back at the plate, Connor Darr was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, four runs, and one double. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Shaydon Oleksa also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen bases of the season.

Purchase Line didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 9-7 win against Marion Center on the 12th. As for United, they have also already played their next match, a 9-5 victory against Cambria Heights on the 12th.
