The Rockcastle County Rockets will square off against the Garrard County Golden Lions at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Rockcastle County hasn't scored more than a single run for three games straight, a trend the team is eager to reverse.
Monday just wasn't the day for Rockcastle County's offense. They came up short against Madison Central on Monday, falling 9-0.
Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous three match, Garrard County brought some dynamite into their most recent game. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Berea an 11-0 shutout on Monday. The Golden Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by nine runs or more this season.
Emily Hounshell was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Hounshell was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Garrard County got a big performance out of Riley Murphy, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. That's the most doubles Murphy has posted since back in March of 2024. Jazlynn Shelton was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Garrard County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Berea only posted an OBP of .286.
Garrard County pushed their record up to 11-10 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Rockcastle County, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-12-1.
Rockcastle County took their win against Garrard County when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 12-2 score. Will the Rockets repeat their success, or do the Golden Lions have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
