Softball Recap: Gervais Picks Up Seventh Consecutive Victory

Gervais waltzed into their contest on Friday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. Everything went their way against the Central Linn Cobras as they made off with a 20-5 win. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent victory being a 16-5 win on Friday.

Addy McCargar made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Those hits were her first of the season. She was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with five stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Those five stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Camryn Rutledge was a standout: she scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Ekatirina Secrist, who scored four runs and stole three bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

Gervais always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .683. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .578 or higher in five consecutive matchups.

Gervais' victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Central Linn, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-7.

Looking ahead, Gervais will welcome Santiam at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cougars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wolverines have averaged an impressive 11.2 runs per game this season. Central Linn has already played their next game (against Elkton), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
