Marquette Catholic had lost three straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 12-10 to make it four. They lost 13-5 to the Metro-East Lutheran Knights. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Knights this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 4-2 on Monday.
Joe Stephan made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run. Jack Rea was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
As for Metro-East Lutheran, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-7. The result was nothing new for the Knights, who have now won nine contests by six runs or more so far this season.
On Metro-East Lutheran's side, Lucas Abbott was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Abbott has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Thijson Heard and Sammy Huber did most of the damage at the plate: Heard went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Huber went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Heard has become a key player for Metro-East Lutheran: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Jacob Kober, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.
Looking ahead, Marquette Catholic will be playing in front of their home fans against Roxana at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Shells' pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so the Explorers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Metro-East Lutheran, they will face off against Southwestern at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
