Washington County has gone a perfect 7-0 against Burgin recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Commanders will venture away from home to challenge the Bulldogs at 5:30 p.m. Burgin took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Washington County, who comes in off a win.
Washington County headed into their last game having not scored more than two runs for three straight, but Danville let them put that streak behind them. The Commanders put the hurt on the Admirals with a sharp 24-13 victory on Tuesday. The win continues a trend for the Commanders in their matchups with the Admirals: they've now won eight in a row.
Loren Frantz was a standout: she scored five runs and stole five bases while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (two). Ariana Gonzales was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI.
Washington County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Burgin was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They came up short against Paul Laurence Dunbar, falling 18-1.
Ashton Lester was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing three bases. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.
Washington County's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-13-1. As for Burgin, their loss dropped their record down to 2-6.
Burgin's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Washington County has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .441. It's a different story for Burgin, though, as they've only averaged .331. Will they be able to contain Washington County's hitters?
Washington County took their win against Burgin in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 20-6 score. Will the Commanders repeat their success, or do the Bulldogs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
