It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but West Springfield had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out the Charles J. Colgan Sharks 3-2. Winning may never get old, but the Spartans sure are getting used to it with their 17th in a row.
West Springfield was actually outscored in aggregate across those five sets (99-91), but they still managed to win. The final score came out to 14-25, 12-25, 25-17, 25-22, 15-10.
Ryleigh McGowen paced West Springfield's offense, picking up 15 kills. McGowen got some help from Anna Dierks and her 36 assists. Milena Kibret controlled things from the service line, finishing with two aces.
Despite the loss, Charles J. Colgan still got an impressive performance from Elizabeth Robinson, who had five digs and four aces. Robinson is also on a roll when it comes to assists, as she's now posted 15 or more in each of the last seven games she's played.
West Springfield's win bumped their record up to 30-2. As for Charles J. Colgan, their loss ended an 11-match streak of wins at home and dropped them to 28-5.
