The Sheldon Huskies will take on the Pleasant Grove Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Sheldon is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.
Sheldon will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Monday, then bounced right back against Cosumnes Oaks on Wednesday. The Huskies came out on top against the Wolfpack by a score of 10-6.
Kwinci Brown spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on seven hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Nicole Camacho-Vasquez, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in February. Grace Harding was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Sheldon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cosumnes Oaks only posted a batting average of .241.
Meanwhile, Pleasant Grove entered their tilt with Franklin on Friday with five consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with six. They never let the Wildcats get on the board and left with a 7-0 victory. The Eagles not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since April 9th (when they won 9-0).
Madeline Lawson made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. Lawson was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Logan Paredes was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Natalie Brozaitis, who went 3-for-4 with three runs and one stolen base.
Pleasant Grove pushed their record up to 12-5 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.5 runs over those games. As for Sheldon, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-7-1 record this season.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Sheldon hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Pleasant Grove struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Sheldon skirted past Pleasant Grove 2-0 when the teams last played back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Huskies since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
