4A Region III District 24 recap Oct. 3, 2012
Texas City moved up to 227 from 325 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 4A Region III District 24. A 49-32 win over Goose Creek Memorial helped the Stingarees improve their standing.
Lee extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Ball, 38-7. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.
Friendswood's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Jordan Wood threw for 123 and two touchdowns and Michael Montalvo had 90 yards receiving. On the ground Wood chipped in 400 yards. Colin Faulk helped Friendswood's passing attack out by catching two balls for 19 yards.
Friendswood's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Mustangs feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Wood has thrown for 367 yards and three touchdowns this season, while Montalvo has five catches for 119 yards. Wood also leads the league in rushing with 914 yards.
The Mustangs' Wood needs only 86 yards against Santa Fe next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season.
Two of the top units in 4A Region III District 24 will face off this week when Friendswood takes on the Indians. Robert Koopmann's team's offense has recorded 203 points this season, making them No. 1 in the league, while Santa Fe has permitted only 169 on the year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Goose Creek Memorial takes on Lee. Bret Boyd's team is in fifth place, while Marvin Sedberry's team is in first place.
Texas City made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 2,029 from 2,899. The advance stemmed from a 49-32 victory over Goose Creek Memorial last week.
