Independence is 8-2 against East Mecklenburg since December of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Independence Patriots will look to defend their home court against the East Mecklenburg Eagles at 7:30 p.m. Independence will be looking to keep their six-game home win streak alive.
On Tuesday, Independence's game was all tied up 19-19 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They put the hurt on Providence with a sharp 61-40 victory. Given Independence's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 55th, while Providence is ranked 295th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Independence had a senior duo take command as Kameron Jasper scored 19 points along with seven assists and Tosh Alberga scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Jasper has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Yancey Thomason, who scored 12 points.
Meanwhile, East Mecklenburg suffered a tough 60-39 loss at the hands of Butler on Friday.
Independence has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season. As for East Mecklenburg, their loss dropped their record down to 11-10.
Independence didn't have too much breathing room in their game against East Mecklenburg in their previous meeting back in January, but they still walked away with a 44-39 win.
