The Itasca Wampus Cats lost against the Frost Polar Bears back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Itasca took a 44-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Polar Bears. While losing is never fun, Itasca can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1040th, while the Polar Bears are ranked 405th).
Frost found their leader in underclassman Brenda Manrriquez, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which Manrriquez has scored at least a third of Frost's points. Breelyn Dyer was another key contributor, scoring four points along with eight rebounds and five steals.
Itasca has traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 14-19 record this season. As for Frost, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 24-5.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Itasca will take on the Gladiators at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Italy is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. As for Frost, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Eagles at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Rio Vista has now lost ten straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 27.
