The Devils Lake Firebirds will square off against the Bottineau Braves/Stars at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Devils Lake is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.6 runs per game this season.
Devils Lake lost 9-2 to Shanley on Friday. The contest marked the Firebirds' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.
Devils Lake saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Julia McIvor, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Bottineau entered their tilt with Glenburn on Friday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They blew past the Panther 29-2. The Braves/Stars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by 11 runs or more this season.
Kaia Hennings made a splash while hitting and pitching. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her six plate appearances with four runs and one stolen base.
In other pitching news, Peyton Robertson looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
Back at the plate, Bottineau got a massive performance out of Harleigh Parisien, who went 4-for-5 with seven RBI, four runs, and one triple. Parisien continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last four games she's played. Kamryn Allard was another key player, getting on base in all six of her plate appearances with four runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Bottineau kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in four consecutive matchups.
Bottineau's victory bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Devils Lake, they now have a losing record of 3-4.
Saturday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Devils Lake hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .418. However, it's not like Bottineau struggles in that department as they've averaged .500. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
