Even though the Wingate Bears scored an imposing 55 points on Saturday, the Newcomb Skyhawks still came out on top. Newcomb took their contest against Wingate 67-55. That's another feather in the cap for Newcomb, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Newcomb to victory, but perhaps none more so than Savier Thomas, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Thomas has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Mikal Ashley, who scored 18 points along with three steals.
Newcomb's win bumped their record up to 13-8. As for Wingate, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost ten of their last 11 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-14 record this season.
Newcomb will face off against Tohatchi at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Tohatchi's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last eight matchups. As for Wingate, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Navajo Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
