1A Tri-Peaks recap October 22, 2013
Buena Vista added to the longest winning streak in 1A Tri-Peaks this week by beating Ellicott, 49-7. The win marks eighth in a row for the the Demons.
The Thunderhawks lost to Buena Vista 49-7 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Keegan Wentz threw for 220 yards and 3 touchdowns. He went 7-8 with 0 interceptions.
Sean Daniels was the best running back in the league this week. In 12 carries, he ran for 183 yards as Rye bested Ellicott. Matt Stevenson also contributed to the rushing game with 58 yards on the ground.
6-foot-0 quarterback Wentz of the Demons is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1,034. He has also thrown 11 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Jacob Crist. The Ellicott star has 24 catches for 670 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Buena Vista takes on second place Colorado Springs Christian. Buena Vista beat Donte' Stewart's team last week, while Colorado Springs Christian defeated Custer County.
The Thunderbolts made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 8,665 from 9,161. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 43-8 victory over Peyton last week.
