The A+ Charter School Maricopa will head out on the road to square off against Thunderbird Adventist Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Thunderbird Adventist Academy took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on A+ Charter School, who comes in off a win.
A+ Charter School is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 16-1 margin over Ajo on Tuesday. Considering the Maricopa have won five games by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Dominic Ascenio and James Flores made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Ascenio pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Flores didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. At the plate, Ascenio scored three runs and stole four bases while going 2-for-3, while Flores went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jose Coronado, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Vash Livingston was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
A+ Charter School kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Thunderbird Adventist Academy lost 10-3 to Flagstaff Christian on Monday. Thunderbird Adventist Academy has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Nate Lewis was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
A+ Charter School is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That somehow still isn't as good as their 7-1-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.2 runs over those games. As for Thunderbird Adventist Academy, they now have a losing record of 3-4.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. A+ Charter School hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .361. However, it's not like Thunderbird Adventist Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .317. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
A+ Charter School took their victory against Thunderbird Adventist Academy when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 12-6 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Maricopa since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
