Hazen and Mercer Island are an even 3-3 against one another since December of 2021, but not for long. The Hazen Highlanders will head out on the road to face off against the Mercer Island Islanders at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
After a string of four wins, Hazen's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. The match between Hazen and Juanita wasn't particularly close, with Hazen falling 42-28. Hazen has not had much luck with Juanita recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Makenna Garrett, who scored six points along with seven rebounds. India Andrews was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Meanwhile, Mercer Island pushed their score all the way to 57 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 63-57 hit to the loss column at the hands of Lake Washington.
Hazen's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-8. As for Mercer Island, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-6 record this season.
Hazen came up short against Mercer Island in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, falling 57-50. Can Hazen avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
