Basketball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Niskayuna

Niskayuna entered their tilt with Guilderland on Tuesday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They walked away with a 56-47 victory over the Guilderland Flying Dutchmen. For the Silver Warriors, this counts as revenge for the 52-39 win the Flying Dutchmen walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2023.

Niskayuna's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ciarra Gonzalez, who almost dropped a double-double on 23 points and nine rebounds. Gonzalez's evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Skye Linyear was another key player, dropping a double-double on 20 points and 16 rebounds.

Niskayuna smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in six consecutive matches.

Despite the loss, Guilderland saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Brooke Lilley dropped a double-double on 23 points and 11 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Lilley has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Madyson Hamilton, who posted eight points and six rebounds.

Niskayuna's win bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Guilderland, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.

Niskayuna will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Kennedy Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on December 27th. As for Guilderland, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Averill Park at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
