In what's become a running theme this season, the Independence Patriots gave their fans yet another huge victory on Friday. They claimed a resounding 67-34 victory over Butler at home. Winning may never get old, but Independence sure is getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
Independence's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kamryn Kitchen, who scored 21 points along with three steals. Kitchen has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last eight times she's played. Another player making a difference was Jessica Worthey, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds.
Butler's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brooklyn Saunders, who scored six points along with eight rebounds and seven assists. Saunders is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last three games she's played. Ava Williams was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five rebounds.
Independence's win bumped their record up to 14-4. As for Butler, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-6 record this season.
Independence will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on the Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on January 30th. Charlotte Catholic is on a four-game streak of home wins, the Patriots a seven-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. Butler will take on the Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Garinger is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 53.1 points per game this season.
