It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Wakefield Wolverines ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They escaped with a win against Western Alamance by the margin of a single free throw, 57-56. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Wakefield got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Maddison Mcintyre out in front who scored 17 points. Another player making a difference was Zoe Ritter, who scored 13 points.
Western Alamance's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tina Bowers, who scored 13 points. Xiomara Moser was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Wakefield has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. As for Western Alamance, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-5.
Wakefield and Broughton will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 5th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Broughton will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 350th, while Wakefield is ranked 106th). Western Alamance and Orange will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 3rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Orange focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Saturday.
