While the Okawville Rockets couldn't quite beat the Breese Central Cougars on Monday, the two-point margin was a huge improvement compared to the 27-point loss they were dealt last Saturday. Okawville fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 55-53. While losing is never fun, Okawville can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 96th, while the Cougars are ranked 17th).
Okawville's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Madisyn Wienstroer, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Wienstroer has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Alayna Kraus, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Okawville struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only two offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Okawville dropped their record down to 17-11 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for Breese Central, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 games, which provided a nice bump to their 26-3 record this season.
Okawville will be playing at home against the Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Breese Central, they will head out on the road to square off against the Midgets at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
