Owendale-Gagetown has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Mayville Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
Owendale-Gagetown suffered their biggest defeat since December 7, 2023 on Thursday. They were outmatched by Caseville at home and fell 79-48. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Owendale-Gagetown in their matchups with Caseville: they've now lost three in a row.
Meanwhile, Mayville's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their third straight loss. They took a 57-52 hit to the loss column at the hands of Marlette.
Despite the defeat, Mayville had strong showings from Zach Langmaid, who scored 16 points, and Jackson Buhl, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Langmaid has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Connor Franzel, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds.
Owendale-Gagetown's defeat was their seventh straight at home, which dropped their record down to 0-10. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 26.4 points per game. As for Mayville, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season.
Owendale-Gagetown took a serious blow against Mayville in their previous matchup back in January of 2023, falling 52-14. Can Owendale-Gagetown avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
