Naugatuck Valley - Brass recap Nov. 7, 2012
Ansonia extended the longest winning streak in Naugatuck Valley - Brass this week by beating Wolcott, 41-12. The victory was the eighth in a row for the Chargers.
Arkeel Newsome was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 254 yards on 32 carries as Ansonia fell to Ansonia. Andrew Matos also contributed to the rushing game with 35 yards on the ground.
Nevada Shurtleff put up the best numbers through the air as Crosby fell to Wilby. He finished with 12 completions for 130 yards and two touchdowns. Shurtleff's favorite target this week was Myles Goulbourne, who caught three passes for 45 yards.
Pelletier was the best wideout in the league this week as Wolcott lost to Thomas Brockett's team. Pelletier tallied six receptions for 109 yards. Matt Cyr helped Wolcott's passing attack out by catching one ball for 16 yards.
On the ground, the Chargers' Newsome has rushed for 1122 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Matos. The Ansonia star has 20 catches for 578 yards.
The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between Ansonia and the Eagles. The Chargers enters the game ranked second in the state, while Wolcott ranks 24th.
Mike Nicol of the the Eagles is only 82 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 111 carries Nicol has accumulated 918 yard this year.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Chargers take on Wolcott. Ansonia has allowed 108 points this season, while the Eagles have given up 147. The Chargers allowed 12 points last week as they bested Wolcott.
There should be lots of points scored when Ansonia and the Eagles face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Chargers comes in having scored 394 this season, while Wolcott has scored 302. Ansonia scored 41 points last week as it beat the Eagles.
Derby led the league in scoring this week after putting up 49 points on Seymour.
