The Muir Mustangs and the Rio Hondo Prep Kares, after both having extra time off, will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. The timing isn't great for Muir: they have been struggling with four straight losses at home, while Rio Hondo Prep has snatched up three consecutive wins on the road.
Muir took a seven-run loss the last time they faced off against Burroughs, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Mustangs came out on top in a nail-biter against the Bears two weeks ago, sneaking past 8-6.
Sidney Sims made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Dailey Mitchell, who went 3-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Gigi Butler was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Rio Hondo Prep won against Flintridge Prep two weeks ago with ten runs and they decided to stick to that run total again last Monday. The Kares' pitchers stepped up to hand Chadwick a 10-0 shutout. Considering the Kares have won seven matchups by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
JANNA TAFLINGER was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
Rio Hondo Prep kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in eight consecutive games.
Rio Hondo Prep's win bumped their record up to 15-6. As for Muir, their victory bumped their record up to 14-10.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Muir hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .364. However, it's not like Rio Hondo Prep struggles in that department as they've averaged .325. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
