The Starpoint Spartans will head out to square off against the Niagara Falls Wolverines at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
Starpoint blew Hamburg out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Wednesday Hamburg got their revenge. The Spartans fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 5-3.
Meanwhile, Niagara Falls waltzed into their contest on Wednesday with nine straight wins... but they left with ten. They put the hurt on the Blue Devils with a sharp 13-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Wolverines, who have now won 11 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Aiden Hamilton and Trevor Meidenbauer made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Hamilton pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Meanwhile, Meidenbauer kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over 4.2 innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, Hamilton went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Meidenbauer went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI. That double was Hamilton's first of the season.
In other batting news, Dominic Puleo was a standout: he went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Nicholas Ligammari, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Niagara Falls kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive games.
Starpoint dropped their record down to 3-10 with the loss, which was their sixth straight at home. As for Niagara Falls, their record is now 13-1.
Starpoint couldn't quite finish off Niagara Falls when the teams last played back in May of 2024 and fell 6-4. Can the Spartans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
