The Hattiesburg Tigers will face off against the West Marion Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hattiesburg is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.1 runs per game this season.
Hattiesburg is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering West Jones just ended the team's six-game winning streak on Tuesday. They lost 12-6 to the Mustangs. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Tigers have suffered since February 25th.
Hattiesburg got a good showing from Andrew Jordan, who didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched.

On the hitting side, Ramarion Wilson stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: he scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-3. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tyler Weatherspoon, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, West Marion had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. They never let the Bulldogs get on the board and left with a 15-0 win.
Rylee Gay looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, West Marion got a big performance out of Landon Holman, who scored two runs while going 3-for-3. Holman is becoming a predictor of West Marion's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 3-11 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Brayson Pittman, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
West Marion kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 10.8.
West Marion's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-12. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Hattiesburg, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-6.
Thursday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Hattiesburg has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .513. However, it's not like West Marion struggles in that department as they've averaged .451. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
