The Round Valley Mustangs will head out on the road to challenge the Point Arena Pirates at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Even though Round Valley has not done well against Mendocino recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Round Valley walked away with a 50-38 win over Mendocino. The win was just what Round Valley needed coming off of a 86-43 defeat in their prior match.
Meanwhile, Point Arena can now show off seven landslide victories after their most recent game on Saturday. They blew past Calistoga 70-30 on the road. The win was familiar territory for Point Arena who now have three in a row.
Point Arena's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Derek Billy, who scored 20 points along with nine rebounds and two steals, and Fernando Lopez, who shot 9-for-14 from downtown and dropped a double-double on 27 points and 11 rebounds. Billy continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Tosh Mouton, who scored seven points along with 11 rebounds and two steals.
Round Valley now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Point Arena, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season.
Round Valley was dealt a bruising 86-43 defeat at the hands of Point Arena when the teams last played back in December of 2023. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Lopez, who shot 5-for-10 from long range and dropped a double-double on 32 points and 14 rebounds. Now that Round Valley knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
