The Monroe-Woodbury Crusaders will face off against the Gorton Wolves at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Monroe-Woodbury will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
Monroe-Woodbury's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. Everything went their way against Kingston as they made off with a 9-0 victory. Considering the Crusaders have won six matches by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Not much got past Braeden Burke, who gave up just five hits and racked up six Ks to keep Kingston off the board.
At the plate, Mason Diltz was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Ryan Lugo was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Gorton lost 8-2 to Roosevelt on Monday. The game marked the Wolves' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Gorton saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jaeden Torres, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Another was Julius Vargas, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Monroe-Woodbury's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Gorton, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-3-2.
Gorton's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Monroe-Woodbury hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .343. It's a different story for Gorton, though, as they've only averaged .206. Will they be able to contain Monroe-Woodbury's hitters?
Everything went Monroe-Woodbury's way against Gorton when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Monroe-Woodbury made off with a 20-0 win. Will the Crusaders repeat their success, or do the Wolves have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
