The Fredericksburg Billies will head out on the road to take on the Somerset Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Fredericksburg took a loss when they played away from home back in October, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed last Friday. They never let John F. Kennedy get on the board and left with a 62-0 victory. That 62 point margin sets a new team best for the Billies this season.
It was another big night for Aaron Cantu, who rushed for 184 yards and four scores while picking up 8.4 yards per carry. He showed off some serious burst, turning on the afterburners on one carry for 59 yards. Cody Helmers was in the mix too, providing Fredericksburg with two touchdowns.
Fredericksburg's run defense was locked in: John F. Kennedy could only muster 1.9 yards per carry. The team can thank Austin Greene for the heroic effort on defense: he. Fredericksburg's run defense has been on the up-and-up: they allowed 4.68 yards per carry earlier this season, but they've only allowed 4.83 on average over their last three games.
Meanwhile, Somerset blew past John F. Kennedy, posting a 49-6 win. Considering the Bulldogs have won six matchups by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Somerset's win came from a few key players Fredericksburg will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Malakai Iverson, who picked up 72 receiving yards and a pair of TDs. He also hauled in two receiving touchdowns, which is notable because Somerset is undefeated when he posts at least two receiving touchdowns, but 1-2 otherwise. Kaleb Flores was another key player, throwing for 100 yards and two touchdowns.
The victory made it two in a row for Somerset and bumps their season record up to 7-2. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.5 points over those games. As for Fredericksburg, their record now sits at 3-6.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Fredericksburg has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 167.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Somerset struggles in that department as they've been averaging 153.2 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Fredericksburg came up short against Somerset when the teams last played back in November of 2024, falling 35-28. Can the Billies avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
