Severance has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the Niwot Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Severance focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Tuesday.
Last Tuesday, Severance didn't have too much trouble with Mountain View at home as they won 51-33. Given Severance's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 99th, while Mountain View is ranked 297th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Severance to victory, but perhaps none more so than Brady Varney, who scored 11 points along with nine rebounds and six blocks. Varney also grabbed two+ steals for the first time this season. Another player making a difference was Jaden Hoffman, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Niwot's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They took a 66-48 bruising from Riverdale Ridge. Niwot has not had much luck with Riverdale Ridge recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
The victory got Severance back to even at 3-3. As for Niwot, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 3-3.
Everything came up roses for Severance against Niwot in their previous meeting back in January as the team secured a 86-50 win. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Niwot's Jerek Funkhouser, who scored 24 points. Now that he won't be playing on Thursday, will it be that much easier for Severance to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
