Maplewood is preparing for their first conference matchup of the season on Monday. They will face off against the Jamestown Muskies at 4:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Maplewood has three straight wins, Jamestown has seven straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Last Thursday, Maplewood was able to grind out a solid victory over Cranberry Area, taking the game 9-4.
Chase Koelle and Gavin Reynolds made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Koelle tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Reynolds tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. The dominant performance also gave Koelle a new career-low in walks (one). At bat, Koelle scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances, while Reynolds scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Andrew Proper was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Garrett Brucker was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Jamestown didn't have quite enough to beat Reynolds on Friday and fell 9-8.
Like Maplewood, Jamestown also got a great game from a two-way player: Connor Pressler. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Pressler was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Max Dell was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Landyn Shaw, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
Jamestown's defeat dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Maplewood, their record is now 3-0.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Maplewood has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 8.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Jamestown struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
