The Mullen Mustangs will head out on the road to challenge the Standley Lake Gators at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Mullen has given up an average of 57.4 points per game this season, so hopefully the team got some defensive drills in this week.
Mullen is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They came out on top against Pueblo County by a score of 70-62. The win was some much needed relief for the Mustangs as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Mullen's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ben Medina, who went 8-for-15 on his way to 19 points and eight steals. Those eight steals gave Medina a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Grayson Bauer, who went 6-for-13 to rack up 23 points.
Mullen was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Standley Lake entered their tilt with Englewood on Saturday with seven consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with eight. They came within six points of losing the streak, but they secured a 54-48 W against the Pirates. Given the Gators' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 48th in Colorado, while the Pirates are ranked 231st in Colorado), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Standley Lake's win came from a few key players Mullen will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Asher Serlen, who went 7-for-13 en route to 16 points in addition to five rebounds and three blocks. Titus Schrecengost was another key player, going 5-for-10 on his way to 13 points and five assists.
Standley Lake's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.0 points over those games. As for Mullen, their record is now 10-14.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as Mullen and Standley Lake are some of the highest-scoring teams around. Mullen hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 55.8 points per game. However, it's not like Standley Lake struggles in that department as they've been averaging 57.3 points. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can put up more Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more basketball content.
