High Plains entered their tilt with Heartland on Tuesday with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. They took down the Heartland Huskies 61-43. This was payback for the Storm, who suffered a 58-46 loss the last time these two teams met.
High Plains was led to victory by Brodey Spurling and Maddix Fuhrman. Spurling went 9 for 14 on his way to 25 points and five rebounds, while Fuhrman dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 boards. Fuhrman continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Carson Swedenburg, who posted nine points.
High Plains was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Heartland only racked up 11 assists.
Heartland lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Luis Alvarez, who went 5 of 10 en route to 12 points and seven boards. That's the most points Alvarez has posted since back in February of 2024. Maddox Regier also deserves some recognition as he posted his first blocks of the season.
High Plains pushed their record up to 11-3 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. As for Heartland, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-10.
High Plains will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Elba at 7:30 p.m. on February 1st. As for Heartland, they will head out on the road to square off against Sandy Creek on Friday. Sandy Creek will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Heartland surely won't give up without a fight.
