Civic Memorial hasn't had much luck against Highland recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Eagles will take on the Bulldogs at 4:30 p.m. Civic Memorial is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.
Civic Memorial will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Wednesday, then bounced right back against Alton on Friday. The Eagles were the clear victors by a 16-4 margin over the Redbirds. The victory continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Redbirds: they've now won four in a row.
Civic Memorial got a massive performance out of Bella Thien, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. What's more, Thien posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in March. Another player making a difference was Zoey Hunt, who went 2-for-3 with five RBI, two runs, and one double.
Civic Memorial always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .632. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Alton only posted an OBP of .259.
Meanwhile, Highland was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They came up short against Carrollton, falling 15-3.
Highland saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lucy Becker, who went 1-for-2 with one run.
Civic Memorial's win bumped their record up to 11-5. As for Highland, their loss dropped their record down to 4-12.
Highland's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Civic Memorial has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.8 hits per game. It's a different story for Highland, though, as they've been averaging 9 hits. Given Civic Memorial's sizable advantage in that area, the Bulldogs will need to find a way to close that gap.
Civic Memorial couldn't quite get it done against Highland in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 as they fell 3-0. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
