Charlotte Christian is 8-2 against Covenant Day since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Knights will host the Lions at 7:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Charlotte Christian 2.8, Covenant Day 1.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Charlotte Christian is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Charlotte Latin just ended the team's ten-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell just short of the Hawks by a score of 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Knights have suffered since March 8, 2024.
Owen Farrell was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Derek Vazquez was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and one double.
Meanwhile, Covenant Day waltzed into their match on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They never let the Buccaneers get on the board and left with a 5-0 victory.
James Cosper was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in 13 consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.
In other pitching news, Covenant Day got a great performance from Grant Gardner as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 12 over six innings pitched. Gardner has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts any time he's pitched this season.
Back at the plate, Brode Dixon was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Zeb Engstrom, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Charlotte Christian's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 7-1 and their overall record down to 23-5. As for Covenant Day, their win bumped their record up to 18-4.
Charlotte Christian beat Covenant Day 5-0 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Knights repeat their success, or do the Lions have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
