The Tarpon Springs Spongers will stay at home for another week and welcome the Indian Rocks Christian Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on November 3rd. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Tarpon Springs put the finishing touches on their fifth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They put the hurt on North Port with a sharp 34-8 win. Given Tarpon Springs' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 134th, while North Port is ranked 339th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Parkees Harris was his usual excellent self, rushing for 195 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 9.8 yards per carry. Harris was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 54 yards.
Meanwhile, Indian Rocks Christian beat LaBelle 34-22 on Friday.
Indian Rocks Christian's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Anderson Dumm, who rushed for 90 yards and a touchdown. The team also got some help courtesy of Keatin Emener, who threw for 154 yards and three touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes.
Their wins bumped Tarpon Springs to 7-1 and Indian Rocks Christian to 6-3.
Friday's match might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Tarpon Springs has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 268.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Indian Rocks Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 235.4 per game. It's looking like Friday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches.
