The Oakcrest Chargers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They fell just short of National Cathedral by a score of 52-50.
Oakcrest's loss came despite strong showings from Mary Mehan and Kate Newsome. Mehan dropped a double-double on 10 points and 18 rebounds, while Newsome scored 21 points. The contest was Newsome's third in a row with at least ten points. Myriam McGovern was another key contributor, scoring 5 points along with 6 rebounds and 4 steals.
Oakcrest has fallen quite a ways from their 18-8 record last season and are now at 1-3. As for National Cathedral, the win got them back to even at 1-1.
Oakcrest will be playing in front of their home fans against Seton at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. National Cathedral will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on DC International at 4:15 p.m. on December 13th.
