The Munroe Bobcats waltzed into their contest on Saturday with three straight wins but they left with four. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 59-57 win over St. John Paul II. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Munroe's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Karlton Knight led the charge by scoring 12 points along with seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Zy Reese, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds.
St. John Paul II lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Mario Forbes, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds. Forbes has been hot recently, having posted nine or more rebounds the last five times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Javier Santana, who scored eight points along with five rebounds.
St. John Paul II struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Munroe racked up 23 assists.
Munroe's win bumped their record up to 16-8. As for St. John Paul II, their loss dropped their record down to 12-14.
Munroe will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Oak Hall at 7:00 p.m. on February 15th. Munroe knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven matchups -- so hopefully Oak Hall likes a good challenge. St. John Paul II is on the road again on Thursday and plays University Christian at 7:00 p.m. on February 15th. Hopefully St. John Paul II focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Saturday.
