CORE Butte is on a six-game streak of home losses, and Burney a four-game streak of away losses. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Tuesday. The CORE Butte Lynx will host the Burney Raiders at 4:00 p.m. CORE Butte has given up an average of 20.1 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
CORE Butte came up short against Redding Christian on Tuesday, falling 23-9. That's two games in a row now that the Lynx have lost by exactly 14 runs.
CORE Butte saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Faith Rash, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four RBI, one run, and one double. That double marked the first that Rash has hit this season. Layla Chapman was another, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Burney never let their opponents score on Friday. They blew past Redding Christian 17-0. Considering the Raiders have won six games by more than nine runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Ayana Avelar was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over 4.2 innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also solid in the batter's box, earning one RBI and two runs.
In other batting news, Alexis Witzel was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, five RBI, and one triple. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2025. Another player making a difference was Aimee Hampton, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs.
Burney was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. They are undefeated (7-0) when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Burney's win bumped their record up to 10-6-2. As for CORE Butte, their loss dropped their record down to 0-14.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. CORE Butte hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .312. However, it's not like Burney struggles in that department as they've averaged .343. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
CORE Butte might still be hurting after the 12-3 defeat they got from Burney in their previous meeting back in May of 2025. Can the Lynx avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
