The Forge Christian Fury will challenge the Manitou Springs Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Forge Christian knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 31 points or more in their past four matchups -- so hopefully Manitou Springs likes a good challenge.
The home team had won the previous four meetings between Forge Christian and Kent Denver, and Kent Denver kept the tradition alive. The Fury took a 40-33 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Sun Devils on Saturday. The loss was the Fury's first of the season.
Despite the loss, Forge Christian had strong showings from Quentin Torres, who gained 128 total yards and two touchdowns, and Treysen Eye, who picked up 73 receiving yards and one score. Eye showed off some serious burst, lighting up the secondary with a catch for 58 yards.
Special teams also played a big role in the game for Forge Christian, adding 15 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Torres, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Manitou Springs was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They lost 43-22 to Valley. The contest was up for grabs at halftime, but sadly the Mustangs struggled afterwards.
Forge Christian will have to contain Layton Little as he made an impact in Manitou Springs' last game. He rushed for 121 yards and one TD.
Manitou Springs' loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Forge Christian, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's game: Forge Christian has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 359.8 total yards per game. It's a different story for Manitou Springs, though, as they've been averaging only 232.7 total yards. Will Forge Christian be able to march up the field at their leisure again, or will the Mustangs flip the script?
