The Mineral County Serpents's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight defeat. They took a 46-28 bruising from Virginia City. Mineral County lost against the Muckers in their previous head to head back in January, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 57-13 score last time.
Mineral County's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jayona Kimmins, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds. Kimmins is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Jazmin Serrato, who scored seven points along with three steals.
Virginia City found their leader in underclassman Kaiya Krum, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 steals. Krum continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Tesla Turley was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Mineral County has traveled a rocky road recently having lost 11 of their last 12 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-15 record this season. As for Virginia City, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-19.
Coincidentally, both teams will both be playing Coleville the next time they take the court. Mineral County will head out to face the Wolves at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Muckers will head out to face them at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
