Hanna is 1-9 against Harlingen since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Golden Eagles will welcome the Cardinals at 6:30 p.m. Hanna has given up an average of 10.8 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Hanna is headed into Friday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their sixth straight game on Tuesday. They came up short against Veterans Memorial, falling 11-1.
Hanna saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Annett Lopez, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Harlingen). They blew past Veterans Memorial 18-3 on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Cardinals, who have now won nine contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Jozalin Bravo made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed four innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Bravo was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February.
In other batting news, Harlingen got a massive performance out of Destiny Delgado, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs Delgado has posted since back in February of 2024. Bethany Hernandez was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4.
Harlingen kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. They are 9-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
The win (which was Harlingen's fourth in a row) raised their record to 15-9. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Hanna, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-14-1.
Friday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Hanna hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .336. However, it's not like Harlingen struggles in that department as they've averaged .387. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Hanna suffered a grim 15-0 defeat to Harlingen in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Will the Golden Eagles have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
