Loris is a perfect 4-0 against Marlboro County since May of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Lions will head out to take on the Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
It was a proper cat-fight when Loris took on Dillon on Tuesday. The Lions fell 6-2 to the Wildcats. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Lions couldn't push the score so high this time.
Loris saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jaci Griffin, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Marlboro County fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Darlington on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Falcons by a score of 5-4. The Bulldogs just can't catch a break and have now endured six defeats in a row.
Abby Quick spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on five hits and racked up ten Ks.
At the plate, Amir Bridges was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 1-for-5. Another player making a difference was Addison Skipper, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one double.
Marlboro County's record is now 3-11. As for Loris, their loss ended a six-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 7-6-1.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Loris hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Marlboro County struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Everything went Loris' way against Marlboro County in their previous matchup back in March, as Loris made off with a 12-2 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lions since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
