After losing to The Effingham Flaming Hearts the last time they met, the Mt. Zion Braves decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Mt. Zion strolled past Effingham with points to spare on Saturday, taking the game 21-2. Mt. Zion pushed the score to 21-0 by the end of the third, a deficit Effingham cut but never quite recovered from.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mt. Zion to victory, but perhaps none more so than Makobi Adams, who threw for 129 yards and three touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Karson Bollhorst, who picked up 66 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Mt. Zion's win was their seventh straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 8-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 36.3 points per game. As for Effingham, their loss dropped their record down to 5-5.
Mt. Zion will head out on the road to face off against Breese Central at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Illinois (Breese Central is ranked 92nd, while Mt. Zion is ranked 85th). Effingham does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
