The Chaparral Wolverines had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They managed a 52-46 victory over Cherry Creek. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Chaparral also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2022.
It was another big night for Gavin Carter, who scored 25 points along with five rebounds. The match was his tenth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tayejon White, who scored two points along with four steals.
Cherry Creek lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Robbie Bailey, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds. Those 12 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Jeremiah Hammond, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds.
Chaparral has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. As for Cherry Creek, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-4.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. After both having extra time off, Chaparral and Overland will shake off the cobwebs and take on one another at 7:00 p.m. on January 3, 2024. Overland has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 475 points over their last seven matchups. As for Cherry Creek, they will play host again and welcome ThunderRidge, where tip off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024. ThunderRidge is coming into the game hot, having won their last six games.
