The Somerset Academy - Canyons Cougars came tearing into Friday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They blew past North Broward Prep 55-31. Given Somerset Academy - Canyons' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 36th, while North Broward Prep is ranked 147th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Alana Pinnock, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds. She hasn't dropped below two steals for eight straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Alanna Fabrini, who scored 16 points along with two steals.
North Broward Prep's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was ysamar pimentel, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. Pimentel has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Ana Abelleira was another key contributor, scoring five points along with 14 rebounds.
Somerset Academy - Canyons pushed their record up to 12-5 with that win, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.6 points per game. As for North Broward Prep, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-4.
Somerset Academy - Canyons will be playing at home against Westminster Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. North Broward Prep won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Suncoast at 3:00 p.m. on January 13th. Suncoast has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 184 points over their last three games.
